Where to Catch New Year’s Eve Fireworks in Singapore

Just like that 2019 is nearing the end, and the customary celebration of ushering in a new year with fiery spectacle is upon us soon.

Since the first countdown celebration in 2005, the Marina Bay Singapore Countdown has been one of the biggest celebrations on the island, and definitely the brightest with some showstopping fireworks.

Since then, the countdown celebration has grown to include light projection shows and performances to go along with the main firework display. And well, when you explode glittery and dazzling sparks in the sky, people stop and notice.

Whether you prefer to be in the thick of the action with huge crowds, chilling with a drink in your hand, or high up above in the sanctuary of your room, here are some of the best spots to catch the Marina Bay Singapore Countdown 2020.

Hotels

Hotels are becoming an increasingly popular option for those who want a little staycay, to bask in all the New Year festivities without squeezing with the maddening crowds. With a little privacy and exclusivity with views from your room, it’s hardly a surprise to see a rising number of people booking rooms that face the city skyline.

When it comes to hotels with a full view of Marina Bay, there is perhaps no better vantage point than the Marina Bay Sands Hotel (MBS), and of course, Ce La Vi Singapore situated at the top of the iconic hotel. With an expansive view of the entire Marina Bay, it’s at the top of list when it comes to prime spots to view the New Year’s Eve fireworks.

Other hotels surrounding the bay are wising up as well, picking up on the trend and coming up with New Year’s Eve packages that will surely entice those wanting to celebrate a little, without breaking too much of the bank (well, when compared to MBS anyway).

Situated near the Esplanade, Pan Pacific and Marina Mandarin are just two of the many hotels who have tailored packages for you to enjoy all the New Year festivities. Both packages require you to stay for a minimum of two nights, promising an exclusive view of the fireworks, along with all the hotel amenities, and breakfast. Tempting choices for those seeking a staycation to ring in the new year.

Rooftop Bars

If you’re looking to just party that one night and catch some dazzling fireworks, without springing for a hotel stay spanning a night or two, rooftop bars will be your best friend. And luckily for you, there are no shortage of rooftop bars that will give you front row seats to the spectacular fireworks.

There are rooftop bars, then there are rooftop bars. 1-Altitude Gallery and Bar typifies the latter, perched at a peak of 282 metres above sea level. The highest alfresco bar in the world, 1-Altitude offers a 360° view of Singapore, so you can imagine the unobstructed views you’ll get of the Marina Bay light shows and fireworks.

Not many know of this hidden bar, but Orgo at the Esplanade Theatre is one of the coolest rooftop bars on the island. Helmed by Japanese master mixologist Tomoyuki Kitazoe, the rooftop bar is famed for their martinis and cocktails.

While the Esplanade Theatre may be a low-rise structure compared to the skyscrapers that surround it, it’s excellent position by the bay means you don’t have to worry about getting some of the best views available. There are even glass huts available if you wish for a more private setting with friends or family, all without compromising on the views.

Merlion Park

If rooftop bars are the front row seats, then the Merlion Park would be the mosh pit for the New Year’s Eve fireworks. Just outside the Fullerton Hotel (another great spot to catch the fireworks), the Merlion Park brings you up close and personal to the fireworks.

Set right at the edge of the bay, you’ll bring right in the thick of all the festivities. Sure, you got to be ready to brave the crowds, but being at Merlion Park certainly brings a different kind of atmosphere and party to the New Year’s Eve celebrations.

The Singapore Flyer
