JAPAN, Hitachinaka – It may be named for it’s location right next to the Pacific Ocean, but the Hitachi Seaside Park is best known for the fantastic blooms that carpet its grounds all throughout the year. It achieves this colourful feat by choosing plants that blossom during different times of the year.

In Spring, visitors can enjoy sprawling views of tulips, narcisusses – and parkgoers favourite – baby blue eyes. As temperatures rise, Summer sees poppies, roses, sunflowers and zinnias taking centrestage. In Autumn, cosmos flowers surround visitors, accompanied by the colour-changing antics of kochia (summer cypress) that track the changing of the seasons, turning from green to red. And finally, in Winter, the park feature ice tulips – whose bulbs are iced to encourage blooming during the coldest months of the year.

The vibrant floral views aren’t the only attractions here. Hitachi Seaside Park also houses a small amusement park, a BMX course, a ferris wheel and a roller coaster – encompassing more than 25 fun attractions and rides. Additionally, the plentiful rest areas, cafes and restaurants scattered throughout the park make this the ideal destination for a great day out.
