IRAN, Shiraz – The Nasir-ol-molk Mosque, popularly known as the Pink Mosque, stands as one of the most spectacular examples of Middle Eastern architecture. The skilful use of stained glass, exquisite tilework and intricate tapestries all combine to bathe the interiors in a kaleidoscope of colour.
Designed to catch the sunrise, the place of worship starts its day awash in vibrant hues, with whirling dervishes of colour swirling throughout the complex as the day progresses. Early-risers will be rewarded; the effect of the sunlight streaming through the stained-glass covered facade is most startling during sunny mornings.
Worshipping here must be a sublime experience, and even casual visitors may report a feeling akin to having communed with the divine. It’s not hard to see why.
