INDIA, Jaipur – The Hawa Mahal, or the Palace of the Winds, is probably Jaipur’s most iconic architecture. Also known as the Pink City of Jaipur, the 953 windows that are beautifully carved on the honeycomb-shaped exterior allow the summer breeze to blow into the palace, keeping it nice and cool when the temperatures rise.

The Hawa Mahal was constructed back in 1799 when the Purdah system was still in place, forbidding Rajput royal ladies to be seen and appear in public areas. Built as an extension of the City Palace, the Hawa Mahal was hence an ingenious way to allow the ladies to peer out into the busy streets without being seen.

Today, it is one of Jaipur’s most popular attractions, especially when you can get the best views of the city from the Hawa Mahal.
